CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION

Working at BBT means working in a cross-border and multicultural environment. The goal of our company is not only to build the Brenner Base Tunnel, but also to strengthen social, economic and cultural relations between Italy and Austria.

For this reason, cooperation between the entire BBT SE team, which is spread across several locations between Innsbruck and Bolzano, is of fundamental importance: each department works hard to overcome any obstacles or problems arising from country-specific characteristics, in order to achieve common goals. Everyone's personal skills, expertise, synergies and energy are part of this effort and stand for teamwork beyond all borders.

A LOT OF KNOWLEDGE - ONE PROJECT

Alexandra Wolkenstein, Biologist: „Our goal is to develop the project in an environmentally friendly manner, in order to protect nature, help it to recover where needed and preserve it sustainably, as a vital element of people’s lives.“
Christian Schwarz, Geophysicist: „I am a geophysicist with BBT SE. Using sound waves, I “look” into the mountain and create a picture of the rock mass. With these preliminary activities, I contribute to better planning and safer construction work.
Georg Orsi, Geologist: „Above-ground prospection activities such as drilling or mapping allow us to create geological predictions of the types of rock and interferences that the tunnel will encounter. This helps us to optimise time and costs during project execution."
Tobias Cordes, Structural Engineer and Concrete Expert: “The tunnel lining must be able to stand up to various stresses, such as the rock mass, underground water pressure, built-in structures, fire and earthquakes. In order to simulate the possible deformations of a tunnel under load, we examine the behaviour of concrete, steel and rock using specific techniques relating to the characteristics of the materials."
Markus Weger, Head of the Procurement Department: “I think the BBT is a great project. We are working together on a project that connects and brings two countries and two cultures even closer together. We're building a large infrastructure project in and for Europe, and we have to do our best every day to move the work forward as well as possible.”
Lisa Terzariol, Head of the Interpreting and Translation Department at BBT SE: “Making sure that everyone in our company can easily communicate with one another is truly an exciting challenge.”
Francesco Troncone, Engineer specialising in Railway Technology: “Working on the Brenner Base Tunnel means being part of a major project.”
Linda di Bella, Head of Technical and Legal Monitoring: “I think that the biggest challenge in the coming years will be to adapt to the changes that we will face in the next construction phases until the final commissioning.”
Sandro Francesconi, Head of Human Resources, Finance and Communication: "We are working on a project that unites Europe and fills us all with great pride. Different areas of expertise work together to enable fruitful and efficient cross-border cooperation.”
Giorgio Malucelli, Operations Manager of the H61 Mauls 2-3 construction lot: The tubbing ring segments for the Mules construction site were produced in Hinterrigger, using part of the material removed during excavation. They were transported to the construction site by rail. This shows that strong environmental awareness is a key element of the BBT project, even during the construction phase.‘
